I truly believe that good biblical interpretation is one of the greatest needs within the Church. Hermeneutical errors have been responsible for heresies from the beginning.
Thankfully there are some good principles that can help us navigate the Bible and avoid these errors. One of the books that I have gone back to a number of times is Bernard Ramm’s Protestant Biblical Interpretation.
Admittedly this is an older book (he makes reference to hippies). The books that he recommends are even older. Obviously Ramm does not address any of the more recent challenges to the Bible.
At the same time, Ramm presents some very helpful general principles on how to read the Bible. I have found it beneficial every time I have gone through this classic and I recommend it to anyone who is interested in biblical interpretation.
