A Theology of James, Peter and Jude

I have really been enjoying the Biblical Theology of the New Testament series. I just had the opportunity to read A Theology of James, Peter, and Jude by Peter Davids.

Theology of James, Peter and JudeI was not disappointed. Although these books (with the possible exception of James) are often left out of people’s study, they are extremely interesting and are worth looking at.

For those not familiar with this series, they are not commentaries. The author provides an introduction, a thematic and rhetorical commentary (which does not touch on every verse) and an examination of major theological themes. It is more about biblical theology than anything.

One of the most interesting discussions in this volume is that of authorship. There is much controversy over the traditional authorship of these four letters. Davids does a great job of wrestling with these questions.

I really enjoyed reading A Theology of James, Peter and Jude. It was nice as much of my reading is in the area of the Gospels and Paul. To learn more about these little read letters was very refreshing. I highly recommend this book for all students of the New Testament.
