How Serious Are You About Studying Tolkien and Lewis?

Signum University

Are you a diehard fan of Tolkien and Lewis? Do you wish that you could do some serious study of them and related topics? It is possible.

There is a school called Signum University that offers an online MA in Language & Literature. This school was founded by Corey Olsen, popularly known as the Tolkien Professor. They offer some amazing courses that any Tolkien or Lewis fan would love. They also have courses in Latin, Harry Potter and Science Fiction. How fun is that?

I do need to say that this degree is not currently accredited. I can’t promise that an MA from this school will make you an English professor at a university. But when you factor in that it is online and quite affordable, it is definitely worth it as a learning opportunity.

Even if you are not prepared to do graduate studies, if you go to their website, you will find all sorts of resources that you will love. It is definitely worth checking out.

  1. Hi,

I found your blog because I am currently seriously considering getting my MA from Singham University. I am a high school art teacher, and have a bfa in art, a minor in history, and a masters in art ed. Singham really inspired me to pursue something I love to do and want to do more, read and write about these kinds of books. I wanted to ask about your experience at the school. I know they are not accredited yet, and that makes me nervous. I also can barely find any online reviews or comments about the school that arent on affiliated sites like Facebook. Im taking a free course right now, but I want to go deeper, I just want to make sure its a real legitimate place. Are many people pursuing the MA degree? I really appreciate your insight… thank you so much..- jess

    1. I have not studied there, although it is something that interests me. I do have a friend that studied there. However, he did for interest and not for career advancement. It all depends on why you want to take it. If you are taking it for interest or to help you become a better teacher, I say go for it. If you need it for your career, I would check to make sure the school will accept it.

I have no idea about students and would encourage you to contact them directly. I do know that Corey Olsen who started the school is a serious Tolkien scholar and they have brought in some other great scholars.

  2. Just wanted to mention that signum university has been accredited by New Hampshire, therefore if you want to pursue the MA degree there it will be as valid as any.
