4 Dangers of Apologetics

I really believe in the importance of Christian apologetics. I spend a significant amount of time thinking about and writing on apologetics. It is a good thing for people to be involved in. Having said that, there are some dangers that can be associated with apologetics. These dangers can be overcome and should not be a barrier to studying apologetics. But we must be aware of them.

  1. Apologetics can become more about the winning of the argument than the helping of the individual.
  2. Bible reading can become too focused on building apologetics arguments rather than drawing closer to Jesus.
  3. Apologists can get distracted by attacking fellow (orthodox) Christians who we may disagree with over secondary issues.
  4. Our faith can become unbalanced on the side of intellectualism.

As I said, these dangers can be avoided. The best way to do so is to be aware and set up healthy habits.
