J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series has been an international phenomenon. Harry Potter is arguably for this generation what Lord of the Rings and Chronicles of Narnia were for their generations.
But can we say that J.K. Rowling is then new J.R.R. Tolkien or C.S. Lewis?
I really do enjoy the Harry Potter books, especially the later ones. They are very well written and Rowling has created an amazing world with its own mythology. She did something similar to what Tolkien and Lewis did.
C.S. Lewis is one of the most influential authors on my life. But it was his non-fiction books that I have enjoyed the most. His Chronicles of Narnia and Space Trilogy are still quite good, however.
Rowling’s fiction definitely is at the same level or above Lewis’s fiction. The magical world she created and the interesting people she places in it are pretty amazing.
Still, I would not describe Rowling as the new Tolkien. That is not an insult to Rowling, as I don’t think Lewis was on the same level as Tolkien. Tolkien created another world with such detail as has never been done before. There will never be another Tolkien.
I’m thankful for creative minds life J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis and J.K. Rowling.
