For many people, “bye” is a sad word. But my Good News for this week is about that word. For the past two weeks, when I have gone with our daughter Abby on a walk to Tim Horton’s, she has greeted people on the way with a wave and a “bye.”
Not hi but bye. I’m not sure why. This is a big step for her. She has said bye to us in the past, although it has often been “bye Abby.” That is because people tell her to “say ‘bye’ Abby” and she takes them literally.
But now she is greeting not just us but total strangers. She gives good eye contact and she expects a response from them. It is a step forward in her social interaction.
So if you bump into Abby and she says “bye,” take it in a good way.
