A Fresh Look at Lent
Traditionally I have given up things for Lent. Usually I find something I enjoy, like Tim Horton’s, and go without for the forty days of Lent. Many people do this and there is nothing wrong with it.
Should Evangelicals even observe Lent? Read this post.
I have a suggestion for those who plan to observe Lent. Why not turn things upside down and look at Lent in a fresh way?
Instead of giving up something for Lent, why not take something on for Lent? I am not suggesting you double your coffee or chocolate intake for Lent. Choose to do something positive, something you are not doing now but something that will help shape you into a different person. It may include prayer, Bible reading/memorization, acts of charity, volunteering or any number of good things.
I have picked something that I am going to take on. I am not taking the easy way out, choosing to do something can be a lot harder than giving something up.
What could you do for Lent? Remember Lent starts on Ash Wednesday. If you don’t know when that is, it is the day after pancake Tuesday.
