Agent Carter: Season One – Review
I didn’t watch Agent Carter when it originally aired but with some time on my hands, I decided to give it a try.
Agent Carter was very important in Captain America, especially First Avenger. But there was more of her story to tell.
The series takes place just after the end of the Second World War. Carter works for the SSR, the precursor to SHIELD. During the war, Carter saw a lot of action but now, her male colleagues would rather she serve coffee and answer phones.
Enter Howard Stark, the father of Tony Stark. Like his future son, Howard tends to get into trouble because of his brilliance. This leads to Carter working with Stark’s butler, Jarvis, to prove Stark’s innocence
There were things that I really liked. I love that period of history, so seeing the costumes and cars was fun. This was also much more integrated into the Marvel movies than some other series.
I enjoyed the appearance of some of the Howling Commandos, as I was a collector of Sgt Fury as a kid. I really liked the work with the Soviet program that would eventually lead to people like Black Widow.
There were cheesy moments, although it fit well with the era. I thought it started slow but got ore interesting as the (short) season progressed.
Agent Carter is an important series in that it is one of the rare times that Marvel gave proper attention to strong female characters. It was a show worth watching.
