And the Greatest Comic Book Movie is…
I decided that I would do a Twitter showdown of comic book movies. I began with 86 DC and Marvel movies.
I made the choice to only focus on DC and Marvel. I also decided to begin with Batman (1966), even though there were earlier movies.
Before getting to the results, a few observations. The X-Men movies didn’t do as well as I thought. The Batman movies did do well, even the cheesy Batman (1966).
I actually thought that the winner would have been either one of the Avengers or Captain America movies. It wasn’t.
The final five were:
- Batman Begins
- The Dark Knight
- Wonder Woman
- Spider-Man
- Guardians of the Galaxy
Surprisingly, DC held the majority of the final five.
We then went for the DC champion, which was the Dark Knight and the Marvel champion which was Guardians of the Galaxy.
How different are those two movies? They are both very good, and in many ways they typify the DC and Marvel styles, at least at the extreme. One dark and one light. But who would win?
It ended up that the final winner of the Great Comic Book Movie Show down was:
The Dark Knight!
The Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy was very well done. It is probably one of the strongest trilogies for comic book movies and perhaps in general. Usually there is at least one weak link in the trilogy but in this case, they were all good.
What I think brings The Dark Knight to the top is Heath Ledger’s portrayal of the Joker. I think that this is rightfully described as legendary.
