Another Course Completed
As I recently announced, I will soon begin a new position as a permanent instructor at the Canadian Forces Chaplain School and Centre. But that does not mean that my time as a student is finished.
I just returned from two weeks at the chaplain school where I was taking the Initial Leadership Course. This is a course that helps develop the skills that are required to be a senior officer (major and above) in the chaplaincy.
One of the interesting things was that a couple of my fellow students thought I was just sitting in on the course and not doing any assignments since I was coming on as an instructor,.
The truth is that I had never taken this course before and I was taking it completely as a student and that I required this qualification for myself. In fact, this course was a prerequisite for me to start my new position.
I enjoyed taking the course for various reasons. Both the content of the course and the instructors were fantastic. I found myself taking mental notes about things that I can start using in my own teaching.
In addition, it was great to be around fellow chaplains. This includes spending time with students and staff at the school. This is a reminder to me about how much I appreciate military chaplaincy and how I want to conclude my career serving them.
My time is coming to go back to the school as an instructor but for now, I am thankful that I had time to be back as a student.
