Arrow: Season Two – Review
I am slowly getting caught up on the Arrow series. I watched the first season years ago but now am going back through it to watch all the seasons I missed.
The second season is supposed to be one of the best seasons of the series but I was somewhat disappointed.
I think part of it was that this was great in the context of the CW shows (Arrowverse as it would become) and other superhero shows that were on the air at the time.
However, more recent superhero series, especially the Marvel ones on Disney +, have a much different pacing with shorter seasons that are better able to duplicate the feel of movies.
Another part of the problem is the feel they are going for with Arrow. It often feels like they were trying to do a Batman series but without the Batman. Of course, the original Green Arrow of the 1940s was very much like the Batman of the same time.
Of course one of the highlights of this season was the first appearance of Barry Allen, soon to become the Flash. It was fun to see how it all began.
Why was I disappointed? It had so much potential. It included the Huntress, Suicide Squad, Solomon Grundy (sort of), Brother Blood, and Deathstroke. Brother Blood was particularly disappointing. Deathstroke, however, was well done. I found the last three or four episodes to be the best of the season.
It may be that Arrow was a great series for its time but that it has not aged well. I will keep watching to see how things go.
