Good News: A Great March Break
I always looked forward to March Break as a kid. It was a good time to get away from school, sleep in and just have a break. As a parent, I don’t look forward to it quite as much. I enjoy having my children at school. I like seeing them busy.
Everything looked like a set up for a difficult March Break. Our kids get bored easily and when they are bored, they fight. The dynamic of having three at home often means that one feels left out and conflicts naturally arise.
This is also the first March Break for a couple of years where I am working outside the house. The kids don’t notice that they are sharing me with the church when they are at school but being home is different.
In addition, I have just started a prednisone treatment for a sarcoidosis flareup which is giving me some insomnia in addition to a few other side effects. Amanda has come down with some sort of infection. Plus Justus is also having trouble sleeping.
Everything was going against us.
But for some reason this has been one of the most pleasant March Breaks in a long time. The kids have been very well behaved. We have not kept them busy with activities, they have found things to do themselves. They have gotten along far better than I could have ever imagined.
It has been really strange. It has been really good. I’m thankful for this good news.
