Goodbye Pekoe
I have always been a cat person. Growing up, we had more cats than I can remember. For about the last twelve years, we have had cats. I love cats but there is one thing I don’t like about them.
Cats (and all pets) get sick and die.
Until recently, we had four cats. The second oldest was an orange tabby named Pekoe. Orange Pekoe, get it? We got Pekoe as a kitten from one of Amanda’s friends.
We thought we lost Pekoe when we move to St Catharines. Well, technically we did. She went missing for two weeks but turned up again mysteriously in our shed.
Pekoe was a very interesting cat. She was big. Really big. She actually got to be about twenty-five pounds. She was also very affection and was super easy to get purring. In fact, all you had to do was look at her and she would start purring. She also has a bizarre but loving relationship with our old black lab, Halo.
Sadly, Pekoe developed an aggressive case of lymphoma and started experiencing kidney failure. We had to give permission for her to be euthanized.
You might think, “it is only a cat.” But in my experience, pets are just as much a part of the family as anyone. Some of the saddest moments in my life have been at the death of a pet. We will grieve the death of Pekoe.
