Hoping for a Good Year
This is my first good news post of the new year. What could I possibly have as good news?
2014 is done!
Was it that bad? We had some pretty rough moments. I lost my job. We had (and are having) some challenges with our son. My health has been up and down.
But it is more complicated than just getting a really bad year out of the way. It is more about the possibilities of a new year.
In any year, there are two things that can affect you. There are the circumstances that are beyond your control. There are also the choices that you make for your life.
Obviously I can not arrange life circumstances. However, I can hope for the best. I can pray that I have a good year with my health. I can pray that good employment comes my way. I can pray that my entire family is healthy both physically and mentally.
I can also make good decisions. These decisions may be about exercise, diet, wise spending, spiritual growth, networking opportunities and so on.
I am not good at New Year’s resolutions. Yes, I do want to be in a better financial situation. Yes, I do want more quality time with my family. Yes, I want to get closer to God. I have ideas about how I can reach for those goals.
My good news is not my confidence in my own ability to make my life better. My good news is that it is a new year in which possibilities are wide open. God will work in our lives, including the decisions we make and the goals we set, and it could be that 2015 will be the best year yet.
My good news is hope.
