How Did I Do on My Goals for 2025?
I had some lofty goals for 2025. In fact, I set 25 goals for 2025. I knew I would not achieve every single one but the hope was to hit a good number of them. So how did I do?
Not very good.
Looking over the list, I only met 5 of my 25 goals. I will not go over the list here, but it is worth taking some time to reflect on how things worked out.
Many of the goals were within the realm of possibility. They were things that I had done before and certainly could have done in 2025.
But I did not. Part of that is because the last half of 2025 was a time of transition. Much of my emotional energy was put into preparing for my new job and moving to our new home. There was not much bandwidth for major projects. Because the changes were affecting the entire family, the family goals were difficult to accomplish.
When goals are not met, that should not be the end of the story. It is important to reflect on the what, the why, and the when.
- What were the goals and were they appropriate? Are more achievable goals needed?
- Why were the goals not met? What were the obstacles?
- When could these goals be met? Was the timing just wrong? Is it a matter of they were not met yet rather than just they were not met?
With all of that in mind, I am deciding to put together 6 goals for 2026.
Six Goals for 2026
Here is what I would like to accomplish in 2026.
- I would like to have at least one article accepted for publication in a scholarly journal.
- I would like to go on one spiritual retreat as part of my role as a military chaplain.
- I would like to have a consistent routine of exercising three times a week.
- I would like to read fifty books during the year.
- I would like to see at least one concert with my children.
- I would like to have regular visits set up with Logan and Abby.
There are other things that I would like to have happen of course. One being the sale of our cottage but that is something that is outside of my control. I also have some financial goals but we are so new into our current setting that I could not come up with anything specific.
Can I achieve these six goals? They are certainly much more attainable than the 25 I had for 2025. I will report back in a year.
