Loki: Season Two – Review
Marvel has been creating a lot of television content for Disney +. Some of it is better than others. So far, Loki is only one so far to get a second season.
I was surprised when I first heard that they were giving Loki a series but I thought they came up with an imaginative setting for it. Time travel is a tricky genre but they did a pretty good job of it.
One of the reasons that Loki needed a second season is that end of the first season introduced Kang, a time travelling villain that was supposed to be the next big Marvel villain, on level with Thanos. Kang was being built up to be a major threat in a number of Marvel movie. This season would help set that up.
Having said that, I was generally disappointed with this season of Loki. It felt like they were just spinning wheels for most of the season. Not much was happening, as we just had the buildup to major disaster that the TVA was facing.
Now, the final ended up being a very interesting and enjoyable episode. I will not spoil it for those planning on still watching it, but it wrapped up the season and the series very nicely.
One of the problems with this season was Kang. He was being promoted as the next Thanos but he really was not living up to it. Some saw the problem was the legal issues with actor but it was more than that. Kang is just not that interesting of a villain, definitely not one that a number of phases can be built on.
The rumours are that Marvel is backing away from Kang. This is a big change since one of the future Avengers movies was to focus on Kang. It looks like time is running out for Kang…
Going back to Loki, with Kang dropping in importance, the point of this season is questionable. It could have been a good season even if Marvel had not been relying on Kang so much. But it wasn’t.
Loki was not terrible but it was not really good either. It was okay and is worth watching to keep up on Marvel stuff. You might want to watch it just to see what they do with Loki.
I am hoping the future Marvel series will be better.
