Marvel Zombies: Season One – Review
I will admit that I was not in a hurry to watch Marvel Zombies. I had plenty of opportunities to watch it earlier, but I had no motivation.
I am not sure what it was. Perhaps it is the general lack of interest in new Marvel projects or the fact this series is not a part of the regular Marvel continuity, as this is a continuation of an episode in the What If…? series.
I ended up watching all four episodes together and really enjoyed it.
For those not familiar with this series, imagine the Marvel world from the past movies and television series. Now imagine there has been a worldwide zombie apocalypse, and even many of the most well known superheroes have been turned into zombies.
That’s Marvel Zombies.
The first thing I need to say is the animation is beautiful. It was just a visual treat to watch this series.
One of the great things about this series is that because it is not a part of regular continuity, anything can happen. There is no character who is too important to die. All cards are on the table.
This series uses a lot of lesser known characters which is kind of nice. They mix and match and we see team-ups that we have never seen before. I will not spoil who lives and who dies but a lot of them die.
They are on a quest, a quest not only to survive the zombie apocalypse, but to save humanity. Along the way, there are many twists and turns. I definitely would not call this series predictable.
I will say it is very graphic and the violence is much greater than I have seen in previous animated projects. Imagine zombies with super strength and you can guess what happens.
I assume that there will be a second season, as it ended on a major cliffhanger. It is not clear what exactly happened at the end and there are many questions that need to be asked.
I know that if there is a second season, I will be quicker to watch it this time.
