Monetizing Your Podcast

Podcasting is fun but it does have some costs. Plus so does the rest of life. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could make some money from your podcasting?
I recently monetized two of my podcasts and I’m really impressed with it. I use something called Podgo. Once accepted into the program, they give you choices of advertisers (including Podgo itself). You then record the ad yourself based on the script they give you. This is actually fun because you get to record your own audio commercials.
Some other monetizing services pay you based on if people click on the link you provide or purchase the item you are promoting. Podgo is different. Podgo pays you just for putting the ad in your podcast. That takes off a lot of pressure.
You should know that how much you make per episode depends on the size of your audience. For example, my two podcasts that I have monetized are The Second World War and History of Christianity. One of those podcasts makes over twice the amount of the other because of the differences in the size of the audience.
If you have built up a reasonable audience for your podcast, I would suggest that you check out Podgo. If you do apply, consider putting the name of one of my two podcasts in the “How did you hear about us” section. I will get a little bit of money for that.
But that’s not why I’m doing this. I use Podgo myself and I am happy with it and recommend it to other podcasters.
