Mortal Kombat – Review

I will admit that I don’t have great expectations when it comes to movies based on video games. It is often just an excuse to sell toys. I will also admit that I didn’t really play the game Mortal Kombat.
Having said that, I did enjoy the Mortal Kombat movie. Don’t get me wrong, it was not a masterpiece. I wouldn’t even be heartbroken if they never made the sequel.
It was a bare bones plot. There was a fighting tournament that would determine the fate of the world. There was a young man who felt like nothing special but really had a destiny. We have seen it all before.
However, the mix of epic fight scenes and frequent humour created a fun movie. I watched Mortal Kombat with two of my teenage children and they thought it was incredible. I found it a bit gory but still enjoyed it.
Mortal Kombat is the junk food of movies. Enjoyable every once in a while but you wouldn’t want it every day.
