My Partner
Our family has been through a lot of change over the past couple of months. We moved from Nova Scotia to Ontario, and I changed from being a pastor to being a chaplain instructor.
But there is more to the story than just that.
What many people do not realize is that even before the move, I was already in Borden as one of the chaplain courses had already started and I needed to be present to teach.
This meant that almost all of the packing up of our house in Nova Scotia was done by Amanda. She did that while be there for our kids in this time of transition, all while I was in a different province.
Although I drove to Ontario, I only had enough leave for that trip and so I was back to work almost as soon as I arrived. What did that mean? Once again, unpacking and setting up the house was put on Amanda. The kids helped, but really the majority was by Amanda.

Something else that people do not realize is that Amanda suffers from a brain injury. Although she masks and comes across as being very strong, she has limitations. She does experience disability.
I say all this, not to make you feel sorry for Amanda, but for me to publicly thank her for all that she has done. She has worked very hard and I could not have done this move without her.
I consider Amanda as my partner, not because that is a trendy way that spouses refer to each other right now, but because we really are life-partners. There are things that each of us can do and together we can make things work.
I am so thankful that I get to do life with Amanda and that is my Good News.
