Obi-Wan Kenobi – Review
One of the most important characters in the very first Star Wars movie was Obi-Wan Kenobi. Near the end of that movie, we see Obi-Wan being killed by Darth Vader. At that time, we did not know much of their story.
This was filled out in the prequels as we watched the development and eventual fall of Anakin Skywalker and his rise as Darth Vader. We also got to know the role Obi-Wan had, in his training and in the injuries that turned him into the armoured villain he became.
I was quite excited to see that there was going to be an Obi-Wan series. At the end of Revenge of the Sith, we saw Obi-Wan retire to Tatooine to watch over Anakin’s young son Luke. But what happened between that and his appearance in A New Hope?
This series fills in some of that. I expected that it would have something to do with Luke. Although he appears briefly, this series was more about young Princess Leia. I though the actress who portrayed her did a fantastic job of capturing the character that had been brought to life by Carrie Fisher.
The basic plot is that the Empire is hunting down the few Jedi that survived Order 66. Of course Darth Vader’s priority is finding his old teacher.
I thought Ewan McGregor portrayed the weariness and discouragement of Obi-Wan in a post-Order 66 galaxy. Even his brief battle with Darth Vader showed how far he had fallen. And yet in the midst of that, he was able to find his strength to continue the fight.
I thought Obi-Wan Kenobi was a very good series. Do I want to see more seasons of this? I’m not sure. I think I would prefer a series based on Han Solo following up the Solo movie. Even an a Lando Calarissian series would be good.
However, I’m glad that this story was told and I recommend it for Star Wars fans.
