One of the most useful books on the historical Jesus in recent years is the Historical Jesus: Five Views book. For those interested, Pieter F. Craffert from the University of South Africa reviews it for the Review of Biblical Literature. You can read it here. It should be noted that Craffert himself has a somewhat controversial view of Jesus which Mike Licona responded to in his book on the resurrection of Jesus.
