Star Trek Voyager: Season Seven – Review
I enjoyed the seventh and final season of Star Trek Voyager more than the last couple of seasons. The writing was tighter and there was some thought provoking stories.
One was “Repentance” where a treatment by the Doctor led to a violent criminal experiencing remorse and guilt over his crimes. Should his sentence take this into account.
Then there was “Prophecy” where Voyager encounters a crew of Klingons who are looking for some sort of messiah in the delta quadrant. Some believe B’Elanna and Tom’s baby (yes they are now married and expecting) might be that messiah. The prophecy is fulfilled in an unexpected way.
I also liked “The Void” where Voyager and numerous other ships get trapped. Logic would dictate that it be every ship for its self as the only way to replenish food and other supplies is to attack new ships that enter the void. However, Janeway takes the high road when even her own seniors staff begins to doubt.
We always assumed that Voyager would get home sooner or later and none of us expected the serious to last for decades. But how would it happen and how long would it take? In some ways, the series finale describes two returns to earth thanks to some time travel. This also includes heavy involvement of the Borg. It is difficult to create a satisfying end to a series but I thought this was well done.
Overall, I thought that Voyager was one of the most consistent of the Star Trek series. There were some better episodes in TNG and DS9 but they also had a lot of boring episodes. Voyager kept its pace with a few boring episodes, some really good ones and a lot that were right in the middle.
I would also conclude after watching Voyager that of all the Star Trek captains: Archer, Kirk, Picard, Cisco, and Janeway, that Janeway was probably the best of them all.
