The Bombing of Hiroshima
There are certain events that forever change to direction of human society. One was the bombing of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, followed by the bombing of Nagasaki three days later.
Was this bombing justified? As a member of the military, I appreciate the desire to save lives of soldiers who would be forced to invade Japan. But the death of so many civilians was too high a price.
I realize that is a controversial position as Japan started it with their attack on Pearl Harbour. But I can’t see any excuse for such an attack on a civilian population. And yes I feel the same way about the firebombing of Desden.
We need to continue to remember the events of the past, whatever view we may have. Here are a couple of videos to check out.
The first classifies this as one of the “great” events of World War Two. Remember that great is not just a more intense “good.” The greatness of the bombing of Hiroshima is the influence it had on the war and the rest of history.
The other video is some accounts by eyewitnesses.
