The Joyful Christian – Review
There are two types of meals that I enjoy. There is one that is focused on a single dish, such as a steak or tacos or pizza. Then there is the buffet, where you put a little of everything on your plate. Both have their place.
When it comes to C.S. Lewis, a good way to enjoy a buffet is to read The Joyful Christian. This is a collection of 127 readings from a variety of his books.
This will never replace reading Mere Christianity or the Screwtape Letters in their entirety but it was a great reminder of why I love Lewis’s writing. The book has a nice sample that could give a Lewis novice a taste of what is available or for a Lewis fan to enjoy a bit from each book.
I read this book as a part of my evening devotions and that worked out very well. Lewis is able to cut to the core of what needs to be said. It was a great way to end my day. Even if you have all of his books, you still might want to grab The Joyful Christian.
