The Wright Stuff
One of my favourite authors and scholars is N.T. Wright. He is more of a New Testament scholar and historian than an apologist, but his work often has an apologetic tone. He has some great sections in his book Resurrection of the Son of God where he argues that the resurrection of Jesus can be spoken of historically and not just theologically as many scholars often assert.
As I have been talking about the emerging church, it is interesting to note that they often look to N.T. Wright as their patron Bible scholar. It is ironic that a movement that embraces a postmodern worldview looks to a scholar who is almost painfully linear in his logic (which is one of the things that I like about his work). When the emerging church says that they look to Wright, often they mean his view of the Kingdom of God as being the core of the Gospel rather than the cross. When you hear Wright preach rather than lecture, you can understand better the emerging church connection. Still he is clear that we need to be careful both of the arrogance of modernity and dangerous inclusiveness of postmodernity.
Having said all that, there is a great resource at www.ntwrightpage.comwhich includes transcripts of his lectures as well as audio files that you can download or listen online. It is worth looking into if you are interested in an intelligent presentation of biblical truth. I do not always agree with everything that N.T. Wright says, but his work is important and helpful for working through difficult passages.
