Titans: Season Two – Review
I have really enjoyed the recent Titans series. It is a blending of the Wolfman/Perez version with a modern twist. One of the best superhero series out there.
I didn’t like that the second season started with the defeat of Trigon. I understand that they wanted a cliffhanger to end the first season but having the conclusion in the second season contributed to the disjointed feeling of this season.
Once Trigon was defeated, things only got worse for the Titans. This included the return of one of their greatest enemies: Deathstroke.
I was kind of hoping that they wouldn’t use Deathstroke. There have been versions of Deathstroke in Smallville, Arrow and the Justice League movie. There are other good villains out there.
Having said that, I did like the way they used Deathstroke, including the way they used Rose and Jericho. I even liked the reimagining of Dr Light, who is often a bit of a joke in the comics.
The problem with this season is that there are two unconnected storylines going on. There is the Deathstroke storyline and at the same time a conflict with Cadmus, which brings in Superboy. Both stories were good but combined it got a bit chaotic.
Some highlights included the appearance of Aqualad, the development of Superboy and some more background to Starfire. I had doubts about Iain Glen as Bruce Wayne. He’s not who I picture Bruce Wayne as, but I thought he pulled it off nicely. Then of course, there was the revelation of Dick Grayson as Nightwing.
I was disappointed the brief and unnecessary nudity. It felt just like a statement that this is not children’s superheroes.
Still, the second season was pretty good and it left me looking for more. It looks like Blackfire is the next foe to be faced. Should be good.
