Why I Still Believe – Review
There are many books on Christian apologetics and it would be fair to ask if there is anything new to be said. The reality is that there is more to say, as Why I Still Believe clearly shows.
I expected this to be a book about Mary Jo Sharp systematically dismantling the arguments of skeptics. There is some of that, but it is not what interested me the most.
Mary Jo takes us on a tour of her church experience, including the really bad stuff. Unfortunately, Christians can be jerks and people in ministry and their spouses are often in the front row to observe (or receive from).
I appreciate what Mary Jo shares, because in my experience, the nasty Christians I encounter are more damaging to my faith than the atheist apologists.
Mary Jo demonstrates that our negative reactions to unkind Christians doesn’t mean that Jesus is not worth following. There is a deeper truth that is there that cannot be negated be how humans act. Christianity is true and there is plenty of evidence for it.
I found Why I Still Believe to be a refreshing look at the truth of Christianity. Perhaps, like Mary Jo, I am a former atheist and like her husband Roger, I am in ministry.
