A Simple Step to Greater Productivity
Time is our most valuable resource. But there never seems to be enough time.
Actually the problem is not the lack of time. There is 24 hours in every day. The real problem is that we don’t get enough done in the time we have. What we need is greater productivity.
How can we become more productive? I have made a change that has already made a change.
During my work day, I only check my email and social media three set times.
Does that sound difficult? Keep in mind that my job is as a social media manager and since I work at home my connection to my colleagues is by email.
How do I do it? I have to keep an eye on email for urgent items. But if it is not urgent, I don’t touch it until 10:30 am, lunch or 3:00 pm. I hear all sorts of beeps and whistles telling me an email has arrived or I have a Facebook notification. I want to check it. I have been trained like Pavlov’s dog. But if I want to keep up with my hectic schedule, I need to stick to the plan.
The basic principle behind my goals is that I want my day to be focused on the important and not urgent as well as dealing with the important and urgent. I also find that many emails and Facebook posts suck both mental and emotional energy. I need to avoid them and focus on the task at hand.
Even this simple change has already made a difference in my productivity.
