We Were Almost That Family
One of the greatest fears that parents of a child with autism have is that their child will go missing. This morning that happened to us.
Thankfully our son was found safe and alive.
This is not the first time he has gone missing but it is by far the longest. He was missing for 3.5 hours.
Our son lives in a group home. He escaped while some of the other kids were getting on their bus. He ended up walking from the group home in Waterloo to his school in Kitchener, that is an over 7 km journey crossing many busy streets. Generally Logan has no sense of danger, walking right in front of cars and yet somehow (thank God) he was able to make it safely.
There was someone who did notice Logan near the end of his journey and could tell there was something wrong. He followed Logan until he was found by his teacher. Here is the video of the story.
We want to thank the Waterloo Regional Police who got busy very quickly to search the neighbourhood. We thank God for Logan’s safe return.

Hi Stephen, I know it’s been a few years since this happened, but wow, I can only imagine how difficult this must have been for you and your wife. Our son went missing some in earlier years, too, including a time at Disney World. On the whole, though, it was for much shorter periods of time. Praising God with you for his sovereign care in Logan’s life.
Thanks. They were some rough times. He seems to have grown out of it now but we still take precautions just in case.
