An Emotional Day
Today was a day full of all sorts of emotions. Today is our oldest son’s nineteenth birthday. I remember turning nineteen and what a big deal it was.
Unfortunately, we couldn’t make the day what we wanted. Logan has autism and he lives in a group home 1.5 hours away. Normally we would have visited with him, but the current pandemic makes that impossible.
This is not what we wanted for his birthday.
Thankfully, Logan did have a good birthday. The group home where he is at was aware of how we felt. They arranged a parade of cars driving by, honking horns and wishing Logan a happy birthday.
Our friend Al, who knows Logan from a camp we attended, stopped by and sang and played guitar for Logan.
We were able to have Skype call and talk to Logan. We held up posters, waved balloons and sang happy birthday.

It wasn’t the birthday we had hoped for but in some ways it was better. We saw the greater community that made the best of a bad situation.
We will have a birthday celebration when this pandemic is over. Until then, happy birthday Logan, from us to you.
