Annie
I have to admit that I have never liked any version of Little Orphan Annie. I always found it extremely annoying, especially the main character.
Having said that, I really enjoyed the new and updated Annie. A big part of this is the actress they had playing Annie. She did a fantastic job. It was far from a perfect movie, but it was fun and my daughter really enjoyed it.
Speaking of my daughter, that is probably one of the reasons that I enjoyed it. My youngest daughter who came with me is technically my foster-daughter. The relationship between Annie and her foster-father (Will Stacks now rather than Daddy Warbucks) really struck a chord with me.
What stuck with me more than any cinematic quality were some of the Christian values that I saw. By this, I am not suggesting that the makers consciously introduced Christian concepts.
One was the concept of hope. Three of the characters, Annie, Will Stacks and Colleen Hannigan, all have hopes that they hold on to. Even though things work out for all three of them, none of them get exactly what they wanted. That is the Christian concept of hope. Christians must believe that there is something better coming than what we are experiencing right now. But that hope is much more complicated than getting the things we wish for.
The other concept was the attitude toward wealth. Will Stacks is a billionaire and everything about him shows that off. However, Annie twice attempts to walk away from that wealth with no regret. She enjoys the luxuries when they are there but is not crushed at the thought of losing them.
Is Annie a great movie? Perhaps not the best, but it is fun and children will enjoy it.
Who can say, on behalf of others, whether a movie or any other thing is good or bad, surely this is down to each individuals choice and preference.
As to whether the movie is a success or not, will depend on the production company as to their criteria for success.
However each persons opinion is valid.
