Commissioning Service at Acadia Divinity College
While I was not able to attend my Convocation Ceremony, I did get a chance to attend the Commissioning Service on the Friday.
My Doctor of Ministry degree is my fifth degree and my fourth seminary degree but I had never been a part of something like this before. I’m not sure if it is an Acadia Divinity College tradition or something wider.
It was a time to worship together as a graduating class, bachelors, masters, and doctors, and to offer ourselves for ministry. I found it to be a meaningful service and being there made me okay with missing convocation.

Friday was an incredible say in general. Amanda and I drove the scenic route from Brookfield to Wolfville. We spent some time looking around Wolfville, a town I grew to love. It was a real fun day of taking it easy, hanging out in a cafe, and impressing people at a knitting store with my puns (I suggested a “needle exchange program”).
Even better was taking some time to visit at Acadia Divinity College, including a number of faculty. I am incredibly impressed by ADC. They have some top notch people there and their programs are excellent. It was nice to be close enough to spend time with them.
Visiting with people at ADC and other Atlantic Baptists made me realize how much Nova Scotia feels like home for me. This is the place where I want to live and minister. There are parts of me that make me wonder why we didn’t move earlier.
We were happy in Ontario, had a great church there, and were close to family. But Nova Scotia is much more our style and we are thankful we are here.
