Echo – Review
Back in the Hawkeye series, we were introduced to the character named Echo. Her story was that she was an indigenous person who was deaf and had a prosthetic lower leg. She also was a deadly assassin raised by the Kingpin.
At the end of Hawkeye, Echo realized who Kingpin was and turned against him. In fact, she even shot him… dead?
Marvel has produced a mini-series based on Echo the delves into her background and her relationship with Kingpin. What we discover is that Kingpin had survived Echo’s attack and he wanted to set things straight with Echo.
I quite enjoyed this series for a number of reasons.
One of the things it did was to examine her Choctaw heritage. Not just in how the Choctaw lived today, although it does that, but going back to the first Choctaw people. This was not just interesting background but it expanded Echo’s abilities. It was very interesting.
One of the things that I am interested in is disabilities. This was an excellent portrayal of a deaf individual. This show is not something you can just listen to while doing something else as much of the dialogue is in ASL. Having a deaf actor helped to make this aspect of the show much more realistic.
The support characters were very interesting and this show was not just about fight scenes but about relationships. It shares a moving story about people we can relate to.
Echo is one of the better television shows that Marvel has put out recently. Echo might not be a household name, but it is a show worth watching.
