Getarix: Out of Obscurity
If you enjoy historical fiction, you will like Getarix: Out of Obscurity. This novel was written by Michael Allen, a chaplain in the Canadian Forces. That is not to say that this a religious novel. It is more that there is a Christian worldview deep down that even the characters do not know about yet.
The story is about Getarix, a young man from Britannia, who is forced to leave his home. He eventually finds his way into the Roman army and experiences a number of exciting adventures. The author has created in Getarix, a hero that you will want to root for. He also creates a villain in a slimy senator that you will want to see fall.
The story is about the importance of friendship, staying true to convictions and being the best no matter what circumstances you find yourself. Michael Allen brings to the novel a great amount of research into Celtic and Roman customs, as well as his own knowledge of the military culture.
