Good News: One Step Closer
You may have noticed that I have not blogged for a couple of weeks. The reason for that is that I have been at CFB Borden doing a course for my role as a military chaplain in the Canadian Armed Forces.
I have been a chaplain for over ten years but for various reasons, I have been delayed in completing some of my training. Now because of a change in the training plan, the courses I needed are being offered for the last time.
One of the courses I needed was Counselling Skills and that is what I have been doing over the past couple of weeks. It was a great course that is extremely practical for both my chaplaincy work and my role as a pastor of a church. I had plenty of opportunities to hone my counselling skills.
There were some added bonus that helped these past weeks even better. One was that we had a great group of students and I was able to both get to known better some people I knew somewhat as well as to make some new friends. There was a lot of laughter and I really enjoyed the fellowship.
One unexpected event was the opportunity to see our children who live in group homes in Ontario. I did not plan to see them because I did not have access to a car and they live a couple of hours away from the base. But I received a message from a fellow chaplain who offered to drive me to them. We had an amazing visit and I cannot express the blessing I felt in words. Thanks Graham!
This was the second last course I needed to complete my training as a chaplain. I have one more that will be in the spring. I am praying that will work out because that will be the last time that course will be offered.
But right now I am just thankful to have completed this course. I am also thankful to Amanda who did everything at home while I was away. I could not have done it without her support.
