Good News: She Feels Happy
With yesterday being Mother’s Day, it was important for us to be able to talk to Logan and Abby. They live in a group home 1.5 hours away. They both have autism and are nonverbal.
We have been talking to Logan pretty regularly through Skype. Abby hasn’t really been interested, and we have been getting about three second of her.
In our previous Skype call, we made a breakthrough. Logan had the laptop, but Abby leaned in and watched our conversation, obviously very interested.
Yesterday, we did our Skype call with Logan and then half an hour later they convinced Abby to have one with us. This was our first Skype call with just Abby. This was a big thing. But it got better!

As I said, Logan and Abby are nonverbal. Abby has a “talker” which is an iPad with voice software. Her workers gave it to her to see if she wanted to say something.
Normally her messages are some thing like “I want donuts.” Almost always it is about food.
This time, she said: “I feel happy.”
Wow. Not only did we get a chance to chat with our daughter, she expressed how she felt. This was such a blessing to us. This was definitely Good News.
