Heart Breaker
We had Logan and Abby over for our weekly visit. We moved it to Sunday so we could celebrate Father’s Day together. It was a fun visit and everyone did great. Abby left no problem when her worker showed up. Logan on the other hand…
I knew there would be a problem when his worker came in the middle of watching Frozen. Logan does much better when he leaves at the end of the movie. But that was not the only issue. Let me share the conversation. Remember that Logan is considered nonverbal.
Me: Logan, it is time to go.
Logan: No thank you. (This is his standard response when he does not want to do something. Abby says the same thing.)
Me. Logan, you really have to go.
Logan: No, I am not going there. (this is much more talk than we normally get from Logan.)
Me: I know Logan, but you have to go home.
Logan: That is not my home.
This absolutely broke my heart. I have long known that Logan misses living with us. I talked to his worker after we finally got him in the van. She told me that the other day Logan said, “I miss mom, dad, brother and sisters, and grandma.” Normally Logan does not talk like that.
This is hard for both of us. At the same time, we know that this is the way it has to be. Logan’s needs are beyond our resources. We have already seen an improvement in our relationship since he went into the home. On the bright side, Logan’s response lets us know that he loves no matter what. We miss him as much he misses us.
