Joker: Folie à Deux – Review
I finally got around to watching the infamous Joke sequel. So how bad was it?
Well, I actually didn’t hate it as much as I thought I would. I probably would not have walked out in the theatre if I saw it when it was playing but I’m also glad that I didn’t pay to see it.
Part of the problem of this movie was that it is not immediately clear about the point of this movie. The first Joker movie did not require a sequel. Was it so we could see the romantic side of the Joker? Was it a cash grab?
I think that if it is seen as a glimpse into the Joker’s mind that it tells an interesting if disturbing story. If it reflects what happens within Arthur’s mind, we should not expect it to be “normal” storytelling.
Lady Ga Ga does a great job as Harley Quinn. It is obvious that there is a lot of talent in this project. However, I am not convinced that this story needed to be told.
I am glad that the first Joker movie was made but I am also thankful that there will be no more movies made of this vision for the Joker.
Of course we have two versions of Batman coming in the theatres in the near future, so we probably have at least two more Jokers not far down the pipe.
