Loop – Pixar Short About Autism

Pixar has been very good, not just with their movies, but with their shorts. One of their newest is called Loop. This is probably the one that has been the most emotionally moving for me.
The reason for this is that Loop is about a nonverbal girl with autism named Rene and a boy named Marcus that go for a canoe ride.
There is always a danger when a TV show or movie portrays someone with autism that it falls into stereotypes. But as a parent of two nonverbal children with autism, Pixar got it right. It really rang true to our experience.
Rene is very much like our daughter Abby, with a little bit of our son in there as well.
Loop really captured the frustration and reward of trying to communicate with a person who is nonverbal. This is the experience of many people with nonverbal loved ones.
I highly recommend those with Disney + to check out Loop. Whether you know someone with autism or not, it is well worth watching.
