Naked Man Running – Review
No, this is not about what you might think it is about. The full title is Naked Man Running: 100 IDEAS that work in a small church and it is written by Dave Jacobs.
Dave Jacobs is one of the most positive voices in small church ministry. I received some coaching from him and found it very helpful.
Since I am a pastor of a small church, I thought this would be a good book for me to read and I was right.
The book deals with numerous topics all related to the ministry of the local church, everything from meetings to preaching. It is extremely practical, this book doesn’t get lost in the clouds.
As the subtitle says, it includes one hundred ideas. Each chapter is short, just a couple of pages. In fact it reads like a collection of blog posts.
That is not a criticism. I think if you can’t say something in a couple of pages, you don’t fully understand it yourself. And Dave does know his stuff, both from his own pastoral experience, as well as coaching other pastors.
If I had one criticism of Naked Man Running it is, despite the subtitle, not specifically focused on small church pastors. There are a few chapters that are but the majority are relevant to pastors of all sized churches. Everything in this book is useful for small church pastors but is not necessarily limited to them.
I would encourage pastors to read Naked Man Running and check out Dave Jacobs’s other resources.
