Do You Offer Full Serve?
What is the difference between full-serve and self-serve when it comes to gas stations? It is quite simple. At full-serve gas stations, an employee pumps your gas, while at self-serve gas stations you pump your own gas.
It was not always that way.
I am old enough to remember full-serve gas stations where you got much more than your gas pumped for you. They would automatically check your oil and clean your windshield. In earlier generations they did even more.
At some point, full-service became diminished to the least amount of work possible for the gas station.
Has this happened to the Church? As Christians we know that we are to serve Jesus. That is what it means when we confess that Jesus is Lord. Lord is not just a nice title, it is a description of our relationship. The Christian is to be in service to the Lord Christ.
“And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” (Mark 12:30 ESV)
What kind of full-service do we offer? Are we the old-time full-service where everything was done to serve? Or are we the current version where the least amount is offered? Is church attendance enough? Tithing? Devotions?
The early Church had one confession: Jesus is Lord. What does that mean to us? Perhaps it is time to reflect.
“[E]very tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:11 ESV)
