Proud to Be Canadian
I remember as a child that people would say the difference between Canadians and Americans was that Americans were patriotic and Canadians were not. Ironically, Canadians seemed somewhat proud of not being patriotic.
As I have grown into middle age, I have noticed a dramatic increase in the pride Canadians have for this country. We are proud of our health care system, our athletes, our military, the beauty of our land and so much more. I sense much less the idea that Canadians are defined by not being Americans. We are thankful for both the British and American influence on our country, but we are own nation.
For myself, there is no other country that I would rather live in. I have visited a number of countries in Europe and elsewhere. They each have their beauty, but Canada is where I will always live.
