Seeing Logan and Abby
Moving to Nova Scotia, as great as it was, came with a cost and that was being away from Logan and Abby. We wrestled with that decision as we were making the move. Moving back to Ontario meant that we were closer to Logan and Abby and we were excited about this.
But then came a brutal winter…
It seemed like every weekend was bad weather. Even our plans to have them over for Christmas were cancelled because of bad weather. It was very disappointing because we desperately missed those kids.
This past weekend, we finally were able to make the drive to where they live. Logan had just turned twenty-five and we arranged for Abby to be there for a combined visit.
It was wonderful to see them, although very emotional. We have to work our way back up to longer visits. Although they enjoy seeing us, we are also disrupting their routine. Abby being at Logan’s house makes it extra hard for her.
Still, it was a blessing to see them. Although both Amanda and I have visited wth the kids over the past few years, this was the first time that the four of us have all been together since before we moved to Nova Scotia.
This is good news. Further good news is that this is first step toward more regular visits and getting into a routine. Autism makes this all more complicated but we can adjust and pivot according to their needs.
Right now, we are just thankful for this visit.
