Star Trek Voyager: Season Five – Review
This was a strong season for Voyager. But in other ways, it was an awkward season. The newness of being so far away from is long gone. There have been opportunities to delve into the major characters. But they were still two seasons from getting home. There was a danger that things would get stale.
Of course there were some episodes that didn’t hit the mark, but there were some good one as well. The 29th century Borg drone created in an accident was interesting. Then there was the training facility that was preparing to invade earth by helping the aliens to mimic Starfleet.
I especially enjoyed Timeless, where the crew of Voyager is almost all killed. It was an interesting take on time travel, in that all that was done was a message from fifteen years in the future by the two survivors in an attempt to change history.
I found Latent Images to to be an intriguing episode as it explored the ethical issues surrounding suppressing some of the Doctor’s memories. And there was Relatively, as various versions of Seven of Nine are plucked from the timeline in an attempt to prevent the destruction of Voyager.
The season ended with the first part of a story where the USS Voyager encounters the USS Equinox, another Starfleet vessel that was also stranded in the Delta Quadrant. It reminded me a bit of the Battlestar Galactica episode, where they encounter the Pegasus. We can expect it to turn out just as well.
