Dunkirk (Book) – Review
One of the most dramatic events of the Second World War was the evacuation of Dunkirk. Everything pointed toward this being one of greatest defeats for Britain, the destruction of most of its land forces. But things did not turn out as expected.
Norman Gelb, in book Dunkirk, takes us through the events from the invasion of France and the Low Countries to the decision to evacuate the British forces.
Gelb breaks it down day by day, with all of the uncertainty about how things would turn out. He describes the cooperation and the conflict with the French, as well as all of the communication problems.
I found Gelb’s book to be a clear and interesting account of this event. It is available at very low price on Kindle and I highly recommend it.
