Stargirl: Season Two – Review
I really enjoyed the second season of Stargirl. It built upon the strengths of the first season and was able to take the characters a bit deeper.
One of the things that I appreciated was that they were able to get more into the background of Justice Society of America. We even get to meet a couple of the old guard. Plus there are plenty of flashbacks.
The bad guy was quite a bit different. They went with the classic DC villain, Eclipso. While not traditional a JSA villain, he did make for a formidable foe. There was plenty of action but a lot of the attacks by Eclipso were purely psychological.
Some new characters were included in this season. We get to meet Johnny Thunder’s thunderbolt, who gets to serve a couple of characters. There is also Green Lantern’s daughter. It was great to see a Green Lantern in a live action series as this is not something we see much of.
One of the things that I really liked was the development of Pat Dugan and the explanation of why he treats the kids the way he does. He was always the sidekick and the JSA (including Starman) didn’t always treat him well. This seems to carry over in how he treats others.
Another great part was the introduction of the Shade. He was originally a supervillain but now is much more complex. He is a powerful figure who has his own agenda that goes beyond heroes and villains.
The second season definitely left me looking forward to the next season.
