Seoul Station – Review
One of the best zombie movies that I have ever watched is Train to Busan. If you have not seen it, you should. It is a South Korean movie and it is about so much more than zombies.
A prequel to Train to Busan was made and it is called Seoul Station. Unlike Train to Busan, Seoul Station is an animated movie. But it is definitely not for children.
Like Train to Busan, Seoul Station uses the zombie apocalypse as the vehicle by which to explore real issues in society. In this case, it is the experience of and attitudes toward the homeless, specifically those who sleep in Seoul Station.
The outbreak begins there and then expands to other areas. Much of the movie is about a young runaway who gets separated from her boyfriend. As people encounter the zombies, we soon find out the kind of people they really are.
Did I mention that this movie is not for children?
Like Train to Busan, Seoul Station does not end with a nice, happy ending. In fact, I found the ending rather shocking and depressing. And yet it is also somehow satisfying and consistent with what the filmmaker had been doing throughout the movie.
Seoul Station is definitely worth watching. Just don’t expect it to be a feel good movie or even a typical zombie story.
