Stronger Together
I came across this verse in my devotions.
“Whoever isolates himself seeks his own desire; he breaks out against all sound judgment.” (Proverbs 18:1 ESV)
I immediately thought about ministry. The worst place to be in ministry is isolation. Some pastors choose isolation because they are afraid of other voices and some pastors just have not found people to connect with. Whatever the reason, the isolation must end or there will be dire consequences. Many of the examples of pastors who have had moral failings were the result of isolation.
Who can the pastor seek out? For some, it takes place in a pastoral staff situation. This is good, but some lead pastors are not comfortable being vulnerable with their staff. Also many are solo pastors with no staff to look to. In certain situations, the pastor can look to their board. I was blessed with great boards, but not every pastor has that healthy relationship. A great alternative is to look to a retired pastor or a pastor at another church (it does not have to be the same denomination as you).
Whatever way it looks like, the important thing is that a pastor should not be isolated.
