The Devil’s Brigade
When we think of Allied cooperation during the Second World War, we often think of the Americans and the British. We might even think about the Soviets. But what about the Canadians?
The United States and Canada have the longest undefended border in the world. There is a natural opportunity for cooperation and today the military of both nations often train and work together.
One of the clearest examples of cooperation was the paratroop commando brigade known as the Devil’s Brigade. This unit was a special American-Canadian outfit that fought in the Aleutians and Italy. While they all wore American uniforms, it was far more than Canadians being recruited for an American mission.

There was also a movie about the Devil’s Brigade released in 1968. While entertaining, it is not known for its accuracy.
